work

ben haggeman has followed the fashion training at the art academy in arnhem (nl), with elly lamaker.

he initially worked as a designer, after training in maastricht (nl) he became a costume designer.

he did this for various theater companies throughout the netherlands.

ben is a free artist from the early 80s.

ben haggeman is best known for his ‘free’ buildings, the gothic cathedrals and (since 2010 after traveling through eastern turkey) the special, more traditional wooden houses.

in addition to these buildings, landscapes, trees and mythical and fabulous subjects are given their own interpretation.

not only on paper, but also in relief objects and on glass.

his technique, described as ‘painted drawings’, usually consists of applying drawings layer by layer, in a mixture of ink, acrylic and oil paint.

because this mixture is applied with a lot of water, the works get a watercolour-like effect.

the glass objects also have such a drawing as a basis.

in 2018 ben worked exclusively on an assignment for two large drawings and a screen print for akzonobel (now: nouryon) frankfurt (germany).

in addition to all the figurative work, ben haggeman has been making geometric or constructivist drawings since his academy.

the origin of these drawings is most likely in the design of patterns for clothing.

from 2018 onwards, ben is increasingly making geometric work.

often in a small format.
