The work of Martijn Duifhuizen

‘I would like to write nothing, to add noting. I want the images to speak and remain silent myself. Simplicity is strenght and accuracy is tension.’

white…

black…

repetion…

horizontal…

vertical…

Martijn Duifhuizen experiences the tension in the surface, the subtle. However behind the surface also is a hidden world. He is always searching for the strongest possible expression to tell the story he wants to tell. Sometimes it is the action, sometimes the surface, sometimes the shape. He does not restrict himself to just one way of expression.

‘When I put a stripe on the canvas, it is just that what I want to tell. Continuously I ask myself how to put the stripe on the canvas, how big the stripe has to be, on which foundation it has to be put and with what colours or contrasts'.

Besides the traditional canvas he also uses foundations such as wood and steel and contemporary techniques.

He applies a limited palette and only colour if this is an essenial add. Like Kandinsky said: 'The outward impoverishment changes into the inner enrichment'

Silence, infinity, death and mysticism are the themes continuously playing a role in the background.

The work of Eef de Graaf

As a visual artist Eef de Graaf considers himself as belonging to the second generation of constructivists. A movement in art in which visual resources are so composed, that an image is formed of great simplicity, purity and harmony. Harmony means consonance: a balance between emotion and intellect. As music is the purest form of expression, ie the most absolute form of art, so Eef de Graaf tries to achieve this harmony in a visual manner. He uses personal funds: lines, geometric shapes, black, white and primary colours. This leads to visual language abstract, which makes it possible the most "pure" to display imagery of the universal.
