saskia van der made

born in 1963 in ridderkerk (nl).

lived and worked in cotignac (var, france).

passed away in marseille (france) in 2024. she died from cancer. 

saskia van der made as a shipswrights' daughter grew up in grou (frisia, the netherlands).

she keeps from her childhood on the shores of a frisian lake that liking for nature.

in 1992 in pietrasanta near carrera (italy) she discovered how working directly into marble could develop her artistic talent.

lives in amsterdam (nl) from 1992 to 1997.

during this period, she masters marble sculpting in studios in amsterdam and france.

she leaves the netherlands in 1998 and creates her own sculpture studio in the provence (fr). 

she further developes her technique of direct-sculpting marble.

from 1999 to 2019, she and her partner, olivier bataille, teach marble sculpting courses.

since 2012, she offered direct-sculpting courses in marble at her studio in cotignac (fr) between november and june.
