seclusion, intimacy and dualism are recurrent themes in anjeliek blaauw’s visual art.

through the years, her formal language changed, and she experimented with various materials.

the earlier work is taut, geometric, architectural in form.

gradually, she abandoned the taut forms and the work became more organic.

besides the three-dimensional work, she also makes paintings on transparent perspex panels.

she paints the panels on both sides and her transparent style of painting makes a diffuse world light up.

the light layers often conceal a considerable depth.

in the recent three-dimensional work, too, she is looking for light materials.

after having worked with synthetic resin for years, she has now turned to glass, combining it with stone, clay, cement, zinc and lead.

this work is also characterized by the dualism of gravity and levity.

the forms are sometimes organic, at other times taut.

the taut forms refer to her earlier work.

a new theme in this work is ‘encompassing’.

the two different materials encompass or carry one another.

this lends the images an intimate character.
