The work of Dorien Melis

Dorien Melis paints and draws on diverging materials.

Although her work looks abstract always an alliance with nature is perceptible: nature in her immediate neighbourhood or elsewhere. Ploughed fields, stubbly maize fields, the starry sky, the first snowfall, the singing of birds, the wind rustle of the forest.

Another recurring theme is music, represented in scorelike works, 'as written', repeating/rhythmical lined out.

The recent works, informal geometrical compositions of painted cardboard, in contrast are composed from the shape and (mostly died out) colours, memories of a sunny southern stay elsewhere, of 'being away from home'
