after his study at the academy minerva in groningen (nl) gerard van der horst always was painting and drawing besides his other activities for earning his living.
his style always was minimalistic.
in the beginning he made monochrome painitngs; later he especially focused on small size drawings mostly in series.
for his drawings he uses pencil, ink, gouache of charcoal on paper.
his work is based on questions like:
how to develop linear movement?
where to place lines and how to connect them?
how to shape a meaningful visual situation?
he connects to fields of interest like geometry, architecture, contemporary classical music, shamanism and daoism.
