helma veugen makes lithographs with great attention to form and space.
in her lithographs she mainly uses black ink.
by making full use of the grain of the stone and scenic solutions she adds gray tones to it.
the rugged moorland in the peel ( ospel, nl) is the starting point for veugens work.
this landscape is always in her mind.
thinking of the peel she portrays the present the past and the magic of the place.
after graduating helma veugen initially painted and drew especially in combination with collage technique.
in 2005 this changed after the meeting with an extraordinary tree in the peel.
this tree stands in her home village ospel, where her entire family still owns a piece peel ground, where her grandfather and father putted peat to let burn the stove.
since then she sits once a week near that tree, in all weather conditions, exposed.
thus growing an oeuvre around this muse, which is typically depicted abstractly.
the tree has fallen in the winter of 2010, broken down as a match toggle.
slowly but surely in the work is a shift from ‘less’ tree to ‘more’ landscape.
for several years helma veugen is ‘doing’ lithographs in graphic studio den bosch. also in her lithographs, the tree or the peel is shown, and these works are called like her paintings 'peelwerk'.
helma veugen still comes back to the same place to work.
