the work of munira naqui is an invitation to begin a visual dialogue with the viewer.
to munira painting is a form of language that gives shape to contemplative engagement.
it is meant to initiate an exchange with the viewer seeking a deeper examination of its content towards a renewed perception.
the imagery is abstract and reductive in nature - a play of line, space and sometimes color.
munira naqui uses encaustic a combination of beeswax and tree resin as her primary medium with oil and graphite on wood or aluminium panels.
painting medium:
the paintings are done with encaustic wax and graphite powder.
the repetitive method of preparing the ground with multiple layers of a special gesso encaustic wax medium is a large part of her painting process.
the wax medium is a mixture of pure beeswax and tree resin.
care instruction:
the wax layers are heat sealed to create the final surface to create the imagery.
encaustic wax paintings are heat sensitive.
they should be installed away from heat sources like fireplaces and radiators.
the surfaces of these paintings are fragile so touching the surface should be avoided.
a light feather duster or a light fan can be used to clean dust if needed.
over time there ma be some natural oxidation to the graphite parts which adds interest to the surface.
